Ben Marsh went quickest at the Birdwell Wheelers 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon to win a second successive event, with Sarah Harrison going fastest in the women’s event.

Riding for HUUB WattShop, Marsh backed up his Yorkshire Road Club 25-mile time trial win on June 1 here and was the only rider to break the 20-minute mark in 19-39, finishing 40 seconds outside of Ben Turner’s course record of 18-59.

In second was Oliver Dawson (Racing Team Dawson), setting 20-30 to finish ahead of the 20-44 posted by Andrew Whiteley of Team Lifting Gear Products.

Making it two wins from two in the 2024 season, Marsh lived up to his billing as pre-race Spindata favourite - with just six previous finishes to his name and his last win coming in May 2021 at the National Youth Championships 10-mile time trial.

On his win, Marsh said: “It was a nice event. I was expecting it to be a cross-tail on the way out and cross head on the way back so I set off with the idea of putting more power out on the way back, but I think looking back it ended up being more cross both ways.

“I think it’s a solid time with the conditions in mind and it was a really enjoyable event.”

Fastest road bike rider in the open category went to Chris Dyke of Team Lifting Gear Products in 22-28, also enough for ninth overall, with second place going to Steven Howe (Rutland Cycling Club) in 22-48.

In the women’s event Harrison (Trek Sheffield) was ahead of the field in 24-35, while a time of 26-33 helped Born to Bike – Bridgtown Cycles rider Paula Fisher to the second spot on the podium.

This event, run on the 010/1 course, sees riders complete an out-and-back course that starts south of Hatfield Woodhouse and heads southbound on the A614 to the Blaxton Interchange, where riders turn and follow the outbound route back northbound on the A614 to finish on Ancient Lane.
