Christopher Isats registered a first ever open time trial success at the Tyneside Vagabonds CC 25-mile event on Sunday morning, with Alexandra Noonan taking the women’s category win.
A time of 53-52 helped Berwick Wheelers Cycling Club rider Isats to triumph by 40 seconds ahead of runner-up Zach Haigh (Team Kirkley Cycles) who finished in 54-32, while the final spot on the podium went to John Routledge of GTR – Return To Life p/b Streamline in 54-43.
Isats defied pre-race Spindata predictions, which had him finishing third and Routheldge first, to record a maiden victory on his seventh open attempt and sixth time trial this season, with a previous best of runner-up at the 25-mile Stockton Wheelers Cycling Club last month.
In the women’s event, Velo Culture’s Noonan managed to clock an impressive 1-02-01 to win with team-mate Adele McAleer second in 1-04-05.
Completing the podium positions was Lois Jarvis who took third place in 1-04-58 for Muckle Cycle Club.
Alexander Storey, riding for GS Metro, was fastest road bike in 56-37, only four seconds ahead of runner-up Lee Cuthbertson (Muckle Cycling Club) who managed 56-41.
Vector Racing’s Lewis Timmins took third place in the road bike category stopping the clock in 59-44.

Riders then looped east towards Ashington, then left to go northbound through Ellington and Widdrington until bearing west at Broomhill then left onto the B6345 through Acklington then left again through Stobswood to head back northbound and complete the loop to finish just south of Longhirst Colliery.
