Nigel Polkinghorne

Nigel Polkinghorne (Duchy Velo) powered to victory at the Truro CC 10-mile time trial, while Martina Geraghty was fastest in the women’s event in Cornwall on Sunday morning.

Polkinghorne (Duchy Velo) took the win in a time of 21:40, with Giant Helston’s James Grogan close behind in 21-45 while Ant Green, from Penzance Wheelers, took the final spot on the podium in 22-10.

Having also triumphed in the Duchy Velo 16-mile time trial on July 5, Polkinghorne has three victories from 13 events this season.

In the women's category Martina Geraghty from Penzance Wheelers triumphed with a time of 25-20 to finish ahead of Sophie Butcher from Tri-Logic who came second 26-00, followed by Rose Willis from St Austell Wheelers in 26-36.

Huw Greenish (Truro CC) produced an extraordinary performance to record 23-15 on his road bike and finished among the mix of time trial machines.

Riders endured mixed conditions, with drizzly rain but no wind of note and a mild temperature. The S6/10 course is an out and back along Ladock Valley.

This event starts north east of Tresillian and heads northbound past Ladock until reaching Brighton Roundabout, with riders following the route back through Newmills and Ladock to finish just north of the start line. The course gradually rises until turning back, leading to an 'all out' fast return leg. The course record for open events is 19-46 and 22-45 for women, which remain untouched.
