Andy Langdown (a3crg) was quickest by just two seconds in the VTTA Southern 10 Mile Closed Circuit Championship, while Lisa Davis (DRAG2ZERO) was the fastest woman.
The VTTA medals were awarded to the quickest veteran on age adjusted time which saw Chris Lord (Brighton Excelsior CC) win the men’s event and Sarah Matthews (a3crg) the women’s prize.
A very warm and humid night greeted competitors at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex for the championship event on Saturday, with the veteran riders competing over 10 miles (four laps).
Langdown, aged 54, posted the quickest time of the night, riding for organising club a3crg, posting a time of 20-19.
His experience of the Goodwood circuit proved crucial finishing just three seconds ahead of Howard Bayley (Blazing Saddles) in second (20-22) while Neil Mackley (a3crg) was third (20-45).
The women’s event on scratch was also closely ran with Davies stopping the clock in 24-00 which was just 15 seconds faster than Sarah Matthews (a3crg) in second (24-15).
The battle for third was also closely fought at Deborah Sheridan (Warwickshire Road Club) recorded a time of 25-50, just four seconds quicker than Lucia Borradaile (CC Weymouth).
The victory on age adjusted time went to 70-year-old Lord whose actual time of 22-18 was reduced to 19-05 on age adjusted time.
After finishing third on scratch time Mackley went one better on age adjusted just two seconds off the win in 19-07, while quickest rider on the night Langdown was third (19-13).
In the women’s event 63-year-old Matthews was second on scratch but best on age adjusted time with her time reducing to 19-25.
The men’s road bike event was won Cris Coxon (Brighton Mitre CC) who stopped the clock in a winning time of 21-17.
Coxon also won the a3crg Goodwood Closed Circuit TT League for road bikes last month stopping the clock in 21-19 which he improved by two seconds this time out.
Robin Kirk (VC Godalming & Haslemere) was second in the men’s road bike event in 22-15, while Robert Sweatman (New Forest CC) placed third (24-21).
In the women’s road bike event Ruth Whiddett (Woking Cycling Club) went quickest stopping the clock in 24-40, ahead of Deborah Smith (Southdown Velo) in second (26-10) and Alexa Forbes (London Dynamo) in third (27-24).
