Chris Smart collected his second win of the weekend in the men’s event the Royal Albert Cycling Club 10-mile time trial in Ayrshire on Sunday morning, with Fiona Davidson (Dundee Wheelers) taking the honours in a close women’s category.

Having triumphed on Saturday in the Loudon Road Club 17-mile time trial, Smart followed it up with a time of 19-31 over 10 miles to see off GTR – Return to Life team-mate Douglas Watson who clocked 19-55, while Alastair McNicol (Dooleys RT) took the final podium spot.

On his victory, Smart said: “I’ve had a lot of consistency with the training and I’ve tried to be in good form all the way round. I just love it and I’ve got a good team with GTR.

“Next up is the Team Time Trial Championships next month and for me personally I want to do well in the 50 Mile Championships. I will just keep trying, keep going. We are doing a Merlin round in two weeks’ time as it is in Scotland, so we will be put back in our box then I am sure.”

In the women’s event, Dundee Wheelers CC rider Fiona Davidson finished just two seconds clear of the field in 25-04, with Glasgow Wheelers’ Elizabeth Wisdish runner-up in 25-06, while Vanelli-Project GO’s Frances Butler was third in 25-40.

This 10-mile event, run on the WW10/03 course and also known as the AY4, starts opposite the entrance to Eglinton Country Park and follows the A78 south under two interchanges to turn at Dundonald Camp roundabout, then retraces to finish on the slip road at Eglinton interchange.
