John Bowman claimed a second successive victory at the North Tyneside Riders 27-mile time trial in Northumberland on Sunday morning, with Natalie Lye fastest woman and Alexander Storey quickest on a road bike.

Muckle CC rider Bowman recorded a winning time of 1-10-26 over the tough circuit seeing off competition from quickest road bike rider Storey (GS Metro) who set 1:11-40, while Bowman’s clubmate Robson took the final spot on the podium in 1:13-43.

Bowman was also successful in the Gosforth Road Club 12-mile time trial last month, while also earning third place on the Vector Racing Climb.

“I’m really happy with my ride today,” said Bowman. “I felt good throughout the race and was able to push on the climbs.

“Thankfully I had a clean run without any traffic hold-ups and the weather was cracking!

“That’s the last time trial for me now and I’ve really enjoyed my first season. A great showing by Muckle CC today. Onto the hill climb season for me now after sitting out last year – I’m really looking forward to that.”

Fellow Muckle Cycle Club rider Lye continued also won with a time of 1:22-53, ahead of Blaydon CC’s Louise Burnie (1:31-55) and Reifen Racing’s Teri Bayliss who set 1:34-11 for third place.

“Today’s event was very well organised – it’s a fantastic course and it was great to see so many people out and about on their bikes around the circuit,” added Lye.

“I’m really pleased how my race went – it’s certainly a tough course with those climbs though. Some really strong riding from my team-mates too, so all in all, a great morning.”

Storey’s success on the road bike also saw him take second overall, with Chris Wann (EMC Cycling) second in 1-21-54, while EMC Cycling also took third thanks to David Jones’ 1-22-08.

This event, run on the M27 course, sees riders complete a 27-mile loops and starts just west of Rothbury, heading east towards Thropton and on through Hepple to continue ahead for the Bilsmoor timed climb.

Bearing southbound to Elsdon competitors then climbed the Gibbet and through to Hardwood Gate House onto the B6342, turning northbound to Ewesley airstrip with riders finishing just southeast of Rothbury.

Competitors were met by a dry but blustery day for the North Tyneside Riders event in rural Northumberland.
