Patrick Casey (Anexo Group Race Team) and Evelyn Field (JRC Interflon Race Team) stormed to victories in the junior boys’ and girls’ events respectively at the National 25 Mile Championship.
Casey was the only rider to break the 50-minute mark during an early morning in Scotland posting a winning time of 49 minutes and 15 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ event Field posted an open personal best time of 1-04-04 to win her first national title, in the Dundee Thistle organised event.
Competitors started outside Forfar, in Angus, Scotland, before firstly heading down the A90 to Glamis Junction - coming within the opening two miles.
Riders then headed back on the A90 in a north-easterly direction past the stat/finish area passing Millton of Finavon to the junction at Brechin Castle Country Park.
The last 10 miles saw competitors battle back up the A90 before exiting for the finish back outside Forfar.
Despite the smooth tarmac on the flat Scotland course seemingly providing a fast course, some riders found it slightly slower than expected.
Casey came into the event as favourite having won the West Pennine RC 14.6 and Rutland CC 17.2 events earlier this season.
The junior rider was in fine form recording an average speed of over 30.4 miles per hour to take victory by over a minute.
Lewis Dey (RT 23) was hoping to provide a home victory for Scottish riders but had to settle for second on this occasion in 50-25 and was the only other boys’ competitor.
In the girls’ event Field recorded an average speed of over 23.4 miles per hour on her way to winning a first national title.
Juvenile competitor Abbey Thompson (Stonham Barns Park – SYRT) finished second in 1-05-10, while Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Whs) completed the girls’ podium positions in 1-06-43.
