Chris Gibbard and Claire Hann were fastest male and female riders respectively at the 50-mile time trial staged near Abergavenny by the Cardiff 100 Miles RCC on Saturday afternoon.

Gibbard (Bynea CC) covered the R50/1b course in 1-42-37 to take victory by 1-36 from Anthony Jones (VMCC powered by Y Beic), with third spot going to Karl Norris (360 VRT), 1-09 further off the pace.

And Claire Hann (Bristol South CC) was fastest female by an impressive 6-53, her time of 1-57-37 leaving Roxy Woodfield (Ludlow Brewery RT) in second spot and Madison Shaddick (Swansea Vale Tri) third with 2-06-01.

It was a fine warm day, but the forecast gusty breeze from the west may have discouraged some from riding, and there were reports of tricky side gusts on the dual carriageway back from Mitchel Troy to Raglan.

Without any obvious reason, the number of riders failing to finish because of punctures was higher than normal.

And although the wind strength and direction wasn't generally helpful, 11 riders still managed to improved their best time over the last three seasons.

Ammanford Triathlon and Cycling Club won the team award with Tristian Manning, Justin Davies and Meurig Griffiths combining to beat Port Talbot Wheelers by 12 minutes.

In the road bike category Meurig Griffiths took the win for Ammanford Tri with 2-04-36, 7-10 faster than runner-up Luke Jones (Vive le Velo).
