Richard Bussell

Richard Bussell (AeroCoach) stormed to a clear victory of almost three minutes in the Ross-On-Wye & Dist CC 25, while Diana Egerton-Warburton (Team Enable - MI Racing – McCann) took the women’s victory.

Bussell, aged 34, took his third open time trial victory of the season stopping the clock in a winning time of 46 minutes and 24 seconds.

The R25/7 saw riders start downhill into Usk and then joining the A449 to Raglan and then A40 to Monmouth in the out and back course before finishing back at Usk.

Competitors were met by mainly dry conditions but blustery conditions which impacted on times and resulted in 20 non-starters.

Bussell won the AeroCoach 15 (Midland Champs) on his last outing after also taking victory in the Droitwich Cycling Club 17 earlier this season.

The AeroCoach rider was again in fine form finishing 2-48 ahead of second placed rider Ben Jones (Port Talbot Whs CC) in 49-12 – who won the Bynea CC 10 & 25-mile events earlier this season.

In a close finish Alex Doherty (DRAG2ZERO) finished third a further 15 seconds back completing the podium positions in 49-27.

Spindata had predicted a victory for Bussell in 45-52 but the riders forecasted to be in second and third Tom Ward (WardPerformanceUK.com) and Finlay Tarling (Willebrord Wil Vooruit) were both non-starters.

Quickest junior rider on scratch was Dylan Sage (Evolution Racing Academy) who finished fifth overall in 50-26.

The women’s event was closely fought with the top three riders separated by just over a minute.

Veteran rider Egerton-Warburton, aged 46, was the only rider to break the hour mark stopping the clock in a winning time of 59-23.

Fellow veteran Emma Wyatt (Hereford & Dist Wheelers) finished second in 1-00-06 just 28 seconds quicker than third placed competitor Bethan Ouseley (Pembrokeshire Velo) in 1-00-34.

Andrew Metherell (Salt and Sham CC) took his fourth open road bike category victory of the season stopping the clock in 55-35.

Robbie Disney (Ludlow CC) was the only other road bike competitor to break the hour in 57-47, while Jon Morris (Chepstow Cycling Club) was third (1-00-17).

The only woman competitor in the road bike category was Susan Shook (Bush Healthcare CRT) who stopped the clock in 1-08-01.

The previous day’s Ross on Wye and District CC 10-mile event was cancelled because of the bad weather conditions forecast.
