Prolific time trial winner Douglas Watson (GTR-Return to Life p/b Streamline) added another win to his impressive list of 2023 victories when he proved quickest at the Scottish VTTA Speed Family Trophy event near Stirling on Sunday morning.
His time of 29-55 was actual fastest by 50 seconds from Robert Friel (Vanelli9-Project Go), with Dooleys RT rider Alastair McNichol being third fastest on actual time with 31-27.
Meanwhile Margaret McMillan (Deeside Thistle CC) was second on age adjusted time with 30-46, and was fastest female with an actual time of 37-14.
That was quickest by 30 seconds on actual time with second female being Patricia Baird (Ecosse Performance CC), and third was Carolyn Chambers (North Argyll CC) who was another minute and a half back.
Derek McMillan (SVTTA) was third on age adjusted time with 31-10, while Dundee Thistle’s Angus Wilson narrowly missed out on the podium by six seconds and had to settle for fourth on age adjusted times.
“This is a race that I look forward to each year as it's the only chance to ride this non-standard distance in Scotland, and it's always a great event,” said Douglas Watson.
“Having the Worlds in Glasgow meant part of the course received fresh new tarmac, so the already decent surface was improved and you have the chance to see your name amongst the Pros on Strava!
“Competition was strong with some great race times, so I was really happy to get the team prize with Marc as well as winning on age adjusted time.”
Top tandem was Lorna and John Lumley of Ayrodynamics Tri with an age adjusted time of 32-40, giving them the win in that category by 2-20 from Isobel Fletcher and Allan MacLean (VC Glasgow South).
The event used the WM15/01 course to the west of Stirling, heading out on the Dumbarton Road almost as far as Kippen before turning for home.
