Robert Friel (Vanelli-Project GO) took victory on his first open outing of the season in the Tour of Campsies, while Natalie Brohan (Lanark Race Team) convincingly won the women’s event.

Friel has previously shown his form on tough courses and was in fine form recording a winning time of 57 minutes and 10 seconds.

Glasgow Wheelers organised the 26-mile test which started outside Lennoxtown before taking on the hill climb challenge of Crow Road - which had a separate prize for quickest time.

Staying on the B822 competitors headed through Fintry before bearing left onto the B818 through Killearn and then turning left onto the A81 through Blanefield.

Riders then turned onto the A891 to complete the 26-mile loop back at Lennoxtown.

Friel, aged 41, was the first rider off having not ridden an open time trial since winning the Tour of the Trossachs 28-mile event in 2021.

Junior rider Ahron Dick (The Cycling Academy) was another early starter competing in his first open time trial in almost four years.

The Cycling Academy rider showed his talent to finish second just 36 seconds back in 57-46, while Richard Sanderson (Kinross CC) finished third (59-13).

In the women’s event veteran rider Brohan was a clear winner with her time of 1-12-53 over four minutes clear of her nearest challenger.

Miriam Gilbride (Pro Endurance Coaching) finished second woman in 1-17-37, while Sarah Emslie (SVTTA) stopped the clock in 1-22-17 for third.

Craig Cochrane (Glasgow University CC) was quickest in the road bike category with a time of 1-01-53.

Cochrane was also the quickest rider up the Crow Road time climb stopping the clock in 11-48, while Anna Fairweather (RT 23) was the quickest woman (16-09).
