Robbie Mitchell made it two successive open wins after claiming victory at the Tyneside Vagabonds CC 100-mile time trial, with Kate Allan finishing top in the women’s event.
Auchencrow Thistle CC rider Mitchell clocked 3-53-08 to win by exactly 38 minutes from runner-up David Nichol (Ferryhill wheelers) who set 4:31-08.
Completing the men’s podium positions was Icknield RC’s Sean McDougall who stopped the clock in 4-33-43.
Mitchell, who won the same event in 2020 and was second in 2021, backed up his National 24-hour Championship win on last month with another victory.
In the women’s event, Allan was a class apart with a finishing time of 4-00-49, having won the national 25-mile time trial the day before.
The Team Bottrill rider knocked almost 30 minutes of the women’s course record – while being denied a sub-four-hour time by taking a wrong turn on a roundabout.
Allan was ahead of Muckle Cycle Club’s Natalie Lye in second (4-38-41), while third place was earned by Jen McMahon (Jadan Vive Le Velo) in 4-46-22.
Lye’s time ensured she was also sixth overall and topped the road bike group, while the fastest rider in the men’s road bike category went to Dave King, of the promoting club, in 4-51-12, ahead of club-mate Jon Bennett who finished in 4-54-30.
Ran on the M100/10 course, the event saw riders complete a looped circuit which started just west of Pegswood and headed west to the Whorral Bank roundabout.
Riders then looped east towards Ashington, then left northbound through Ellington and Widdrington until bearing west at Broomhill.
Competitors then took a left onto the B6345 through Acklington and then left again through Stobswood to head back northbound. Riders completed four laps of the loop and then finished just south of Longhirst Colliery.
