Team Kirkley Cycles team-mates Lewis Wake and Claire Harlow took slender victories in the Wednesday night Barnesbury CC 10 in Northumberland.
It started a good week for both riders who also took victory in the Derwentside CC 9.5-mile event the following Sunday.
Wake took his seventh open time trial victory of the season in the Barnesbury CC event stopping the clock in a time of 19 minutes and 34 seconds – 11 seconds quicker than his nearest challenger.
The M102B saw competitors start on the A1068 outside Cramlington for an opening leg of one-mile before joining the A192 and completing two out-and-back loops out to the roundabout with the A189.
Wake recorded an average speed of over 30.66 miles per hour to finish 11 seconds quicker than Team Kirkley Cycles team-mate Adam Smith who stopped the clock in 19-45.
Smith had been a clear winner in last month’s Houghton CC 25 but had to settle for second over the shorter distance.
Finishing third this time out was Zach Haigh for the hosting Barnesbury CC recording a time of 20-25.
The veteran’s competition on scratch couldn’t have been closer with Harry Walker (Revolver Racing) going fastest and taking fourth overall in 20-30.
His time was two seconds quicker than a three-way tie between GS Metro riders Carl Donaldson and Philip Kennell along with Shaun Tyson (Protech Velo).
Quickest junior rider on scratch was Harris Hall (Velo Culture) whose time of 21-03 placed him in 10th place overall.
Harlow took another victory for Team Kirkley Cycles in the women’s event recording an average speed of over 24.64 miles per hour to finish in 24-21.
Jen McMahon (Jadan Vive Le Velo) battled all the way before settling for second in 24-43.
A close battle for the final podium position saw veteran Adele McAleer (Velo Culture) post 25-37 which was 12 seconds faster than junior rider Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Whs).
The road bike category was also closely fought with the top six riders separated just over a minute.
Quickest of the road bike competitors was veteran Noel Stoddart (Allen Valley Velo) whose time of 22-28 was four seconds quicker than fastest junior Charlie Thew (Racing Metro 15) in second.
The battle for third was also tight with Michael Charlton (Barnesbury CC) posting a time of 22-55 which was three seconds quicker than veteran Lee Ridden (Reifen Racing).
All of the women’s road bike competitors were separated by less than a minute with veteran Teri Bayliss (Reifen Racing) the quickest in 25-57.
Celia Michie (Alnwick Cycling Club) was second woman in the road bike category and Caroline Cunningham (North Tyneside Riders CC) was third (26-21).
