GS Metro and Blaydon CC celebrate victories at Barnesbury CC 3-up TTT

GS Metro won the road bike category and had a rider in the fastest composite team at the Barnesbury CC three-up team time trial over 19 miles, while Blaydon CC were the quickest women’s team.

The quickest trio on the day were GTR - Return To Life P/B Streamline riders John Routledge and Terry Wilkinson who were joined by Carl Donaldson (GS Metro) – stopping the clock in 41 minutes and 34 seconds.

GS Metro also celebrating winning the road bike category with Joshua Hodgson, Frank Moore and Alexander Storey also the second team overall in 42-22.

The M19 course saw riders start and finish near Stannington before completing a 19-mile loop of the Northumberland countryside heading out through St Mary’s Park and Tranwell.

Competitors then briefly joined the B6524 before rejoining an unclassified road back down to Ponteland before the final leg to the finish.

A good field of 18 teams were met by dry but very blustery conditions and fairly light traffic on the brief section on the A1 before the finish.

The scratch composite team consisted of veteran riders Donaldson and Routledge who were joined by Wilkinson.

Second team in the time trial category went to Vanelli-Project GO with their team of Garry Greenaway, Gavin Church and Graham Smith stopping the clock in 43-44.

Allen Valley Velo completed the time trial podium positions with their trio consisting of Tim Burdon, Nick Badcock and Christopher Beaty (45-07).

In the road bike category GS Metro took the win finishing 51 seconds ahead of the Protech Velo trio of Brian Ward, Graham Thompson and Shaun Tyson who stopped the clock in 43-13.

Completing the road bike podium positions was a composite team including GS Metro riders James Corfield and Thomas Baxter who were paired with Jacob Hobbs (Newcastle University Cycling Club) – who finished in 45-09.

The women’s competition was won by the Blaydon CC with Angela McGurk and Vanessa Armstrong on road bikes and Gemma Hutchins on a time trial bike – the trio stopping the clock in 52-41.

Second in the women’s category was the road bike trio of Vicky Cuthbertson, Lesley Watson and Carol Stutchbury (Sun City Tri) who recorded a time of 1-05-55.

Muckle Cycle Club were the quickest mixed gender team with Lois Jarvis, Jonathan Cairns and Darren Robson finishing in 47-14.
