Lois Jarvis (Muckle CC) and Tom Hutchinson (Team Bottrill) proved fastest at the North Tyneside Riders CC 50-mile event near Cramlington in Northumberland on Sunday.

Jarvis clocked 2-09-06 to win the female prize by two minutes from Claire Cook (South Shields Velo CC), while third quickest of the women was Adele McAleer (Velo Culture) with 2-12-06.

Hutchinson covered the course in 1-41-27 which was 5-20 quicker than runner-up Adam Smith (Team Kirkley Cycles) with Terry Wilkinson (GTR Return to Life) third with 1-48-14.

The event doubled up as the Northumberland and Durham CA Championships as well as a VTTA North event, and with Hutchinson not being affiliated the crown went to Adam Smith while Jarvis was the women’s NDCA title recipient.

The NDCA champion in the veterans age adjusted time category was Philip Kennell (GS Metro) as well as Claire Cook (South Shields Velo).

“I was really delighted to get the win today,” said fastest female, Lois Jarvis. “It was the final TT I needed to complete the Regional best all-rounder competition so I am glad to have now ticked that off.

Lois Jarvis.

“A long TT doesn’t play to my strengths but the course has good variety to keep you focussed and chip the time away. There was also great support along the route from the marshals and the conditions were pretty perfect with the temperature not as hot as predicted earlier in the week.”

And Hutchinson said: “I started my TT season later than I would have liked, with only a few opportunities to dial in the legs before heading further afield to nationals and other target events.

“I love racing locally and I am very happy to take the win this weekend. I am pleased things are heading in the right direction - it has given me confidence on the pacing/power strategy for forthcoming races.”

It was a dry morning, and early mist towards the north of the course near Amble soon burnt off and left riders well happy with their performances, with several personal best times recorded.

In the road bike categories Muckle CC’s Hugo Storey was fastest with 1-54-51, while top female on a road bike was Natalie Lye of the same club, with 2-12-23.

The M50 course begins just north of Cramlington and heads up the A189 and A1068 past Blyth and Ashington to Amble, where they turn and head back south.
