Michael Gill earned his first open time trial win of the season at the Zeus CRT 10-mile time trial in Northumberland on Sunday morning, with Lois Jarvis securing success in the women’s event.
HUUB WattShop rider Gill earned his first win since the Chronos RT event in August 2022 by finishing in 18-29, 1-01 ahead of Team Kirkley Cycles rider Lewis Wake who clocked 19-30, while a time of 20-13 helped Durham City Velo’s Euan Adam take the final podium spot, beating his previous 10-mile personal best of 20-47 in the process.
A strong headwind on the return leg meant that Gill fell three seconds short of his course PB of 18-29.
Fastest junior was Edinburgh Road Club’s Rhys Edwards, who also set a 10-mile personal best to beat his previous mark of 21-01, to boost his summer target of riding the Junior Tour de France.
This event doubled up as a VTTA North time trial, with Philip Kennell of GS Metro topping the table with an age adjusted time of 19-11 (20-29 on actual).
In the women’s event Jarvis (Muckle Cycle Club) produced an impressive ride to finish in 23-31 and win by more than a minute from Blaydon CC’s Louise Burnie in 24-45, with third place going to Adele McAleer of Velo Culture in 25-00.
This ride was good preparation for riders planning to enter the National 10-mile time trial in September, with the same course set to be used for the event.
Run on the M101 course, the course starts on Bedlington Road and heads to the Three Horseshoes roundabout, then taking the first exit on the A189 northbound, reaching the North Seaton roundabout then following the route back to finish just east of the start line.
