Lewis Wake (Team Kirkley Cycles) and Louise Burnie (Blaydon CC) were fastest male and female riders as Vector Racing staged a 25-mile time trial in sunny and dry conditions near Bedlington in Northumberland on Sunday.
The event doubled up as the Northumberland and Durham CA 25-Mile Championship, and it also marked the second win of the weekend for Lewis Wake having won his own club’s 10-miler the previous day at Ponteland.
Wake clocked 49-38 to take victory by 26 seconds from team-mate Adam Smith, while third went to Muckle CC’s Alex Milne another 52 seconds off the pace. Wake also won the Northumberland and Durham CA Championship on the same course 12 months earlier, although he was around two minutes quicker in 2023.
Burnie’s time was 1-02-17, which left Adele McAleer (Velo Culture) in second with 1-02-17.
Among the other winners on the day were the fastest veterans on age adjusted times, with GS Metro’s Phil Kennell and Adele McAleer the winners in that category with 49-05 and 56-51 respectively.
“I’ve always really enjoyed this course and was happy to finish in under 50 minutes today which was my main target,” said Lewis Wake.
“On paper it’s a flat course until you start riding and notice a few drags on the Spine Road. Big thanks to Vector Racing for putting on the event this morning, and to everyone else involved.”
Fastest rider on a road bike was Gosforth Road Club’s Simon Crisp, the 32-year-old covering the course in 56-52, while Tom Guy (Sunderland Clarion) was second in that category with 1-00-41.
The event uses the M2510 course, and riders head out onto the A189 then turn north through Bebside and North Seaton, turning near Ashington and heading back down to East Hartford before doing another lap.
