Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM – Vive le Velo) took his second win of the weekend and posted a lifetime personal best time to win the Manchester Bicycle Club 25, while Sarah Harrison (Trek Sheffield) was quickest woman.

In near perfect conditions Duggleby stormed to victory recording an average speed of over 32.56 miles per hour to stop the clock in 46 minutes and four seconds.

The day started out very calm and the wind picked up throughout the event with Simon Wilson (HUUB WattShop) off last man of the 77 entries. The outward leg was fast with mostly a downhill profile with little wind many riders commented on how quickly they reached the turn.

The A50 out and back course is back in use after a number of years gap and is thought to be the fastest course in the Manchester District.

The battle between Duggleby and Wilson was see-sawing throughout, Wilson up by a few seconds on the way out and about level by they reached the final roundabout on the return, according to a race marshal.

Wilson finished with 46-15, which would have been a course record having not been pipped by 11 seconds by Duggleby.

Third place Alistair Ribbands finished with a solid time of 49-01. Out of the 61 finishers a total of 45 personal bests were recorded.

Duggleby will start as last man in the National 25-mile Championship next week near Dundee but will have strong competition in the medal fight. The Leeds-based rider also won the previous day’s VTTA East Mids 25 to record a double weekend of wins.

In the road bike category Luke Buswell, riding for host club Manchester Bicycle Club, was quickest in 53-32 ahead of Alexander Bayliss (Lyme Racing Club) in second (1-06-26).
