David Parkin picked up his ninth victory of the season at the Congleton CC – MyWindsock 50-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday, with Alice Taylor earning success in the women’s event.

Velotik Racing Team rider Parkin clinched a third successive time trial win in 1:49-17, ahead of Alex Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club) who took the runners-up slot in 1:49-43. A time of 1:52-19 helped Seamon Cycling Club’s Alan Chorley take third place.

The promoting club also enjoyed success with Taylor clocking 2:04-39 to finish as fastest female, beating Total Tri Training’s Jenny Zwijen by more than six minutes with the runner-up finishing in 2:10-41, while Zwijen’s clubmate Emma Jane Bradfield took the final spot on the podium in 2:11-25.

Taylor said: “Conditions started out tough with heavy rain, I felt like I paced it well and was happy to be able to pick it up for the third and final lap.

“I got slowed down on a few of the junctions but overall I was happy with my time given the weather conditions, this is my second season doing time trials and I’m enjoying the process so far.”

Riders faced challenging and wet conditions on the first half of the course, with 23 non-starters and pre-race favourite Jack Levick crashing after 40 miles. Luckily he suffered no injuries and just had a few scratches on his bike, but failed to finish.

Elsewhere, Luke Buswell of Manchester Bicycle Club, finished in exactly 2:00-00 to win the road bike category ahead of Leek CC pair William Neill and Sean Daly who clocked 2:03-20 and 2:30-45 respectively.

Seamons CC were the winners of the men’s team prize while Congleton CC – MyWindsock took the women’s prize on their home circuit, while the VTTA Manchester and North West Group Championship podium spots were filled by Seamons CC.

The event, held on course J4/16, is a loop circuit that starts just east of Cranage and heads east then, at Twemlow Green, northeast on the A535 until bearing west past Chelford and Ollerton until turning left at Knutsford as riders return southbound past Allostock on the A60 to complete the circuit, then finishing two more circuits until finishing just north of Cranage.
