David Parkin (Velotik Racing Team) took victory by 23 seconds in the Seamons CC 25, while Alice Taylor (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) was a convincing victor in the women’s event.
Parkin, aged 36, took his eighth victory of the season recording a winning time of 52 minutes and 13 seconds.
The J2/9 saw competitors start near Jodrell Bank before joining the A535 and heading out to Chelford and then on the A537 to Ollerton.
Competitors then headed over to Toft before joining the A50 back south past the finish to Cranage before heading across to Twemlow Green and then to the start.
Riders completed one-and-a-half laps of the Cheshire loop to make the 25-mile distance.
Host club Seamons CC were celebrating their 75th anniversary and had the best post-Covid turnout with 83 riders.
Those that turned out were hampered by strong winds and heavy rain showers, but riders were still able to post some fast times for the course.
Parkin, from Clifton in Manchester, also won the SCCA & WCTTCA 100-mile event on his last outing two weeks earlier and showed his form to take another victory.
A close second was Tristan Pilling (360Cycling) who was just 23 seconds back with 52-36 and Alexander Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club) finished third a further second back (53-37).
Parkin dedicated his win to team-mate Darren Maironis who was killed in a crash during the same event two years ago.
“It was the first time that I’d ever met Darren that day as I was about to join the team and had a good chat with him,” said Parkin.
“We had a big charity event yesterday so there was a bit of pressure on me to get the win.”
Parkin said that competitors had to battle against tough conditions with a strong crosswind in some sections.
He added: “Once I realised the wind directions I just had to hold on tight and dig deep.
“There was a good tailwind on the first section but then the crosswind while riding deep section wheels made for a few wobbles.
“It was my personal best on that course so it was a good ride. I was third on Spindata so I needed to beat a couple of strong riders.”
Spindata had predicted that Pilling would beat Parker but in reality he overturned that result and went 19 seconds faster than his predicted time of 52-32.
In the women’s event Taylor went tantalisingly close to going under the hour stopping the clock with a 1-00-12 to take victory.
Total Tri Training team-mates Jenny Zwijnen (1-03-08) and Emma-Kae Bradfield (1-03-55) completed the podium positions.
The overall team prize went to Congleton CC with 2-47-09 ahead of Seamons CC in second with 2-48-13.
The VTTA winner was Richard Shaw (Seamons CC) with an age adjusted time of 52-29, edging out team-mate Alan Chorley into second with 53-03.
Alexander Munro (90) was expected to challenge them but did not finish after difficulties on the course.
