Junior ace Joe Cosgrove proved quickest at the Manchester and District LCA 10-mile event in Cheshire on Saturday, while Lucy Rogers was quickest female.

17-year-old Cosgrove (Anexo Group Race Team) – who won overall at the Isle of Man Junior Tour stage race back in April - clocked 21-10 and was fastest by four seconds from Alex Royle (Manchester BC), with third going to veteran Richard Shaw (Seamons CC) with 21-25.

Congleton CC-MyWindsock dominated the women’s event with Lucy Rogers clocking 23-33, but she asked to be excluded from the prizes so her team-mate Gail Lowe took the prize with 24-53. Meanwhile, Congleton CC also took third with Lynsey Astles setting a personal best time of 25-37.

Fastest lady on handicap was also a Congleton CC rider with Denise Hurst winning that category.

Spare a thought for Alex Dowsett (Nopinz) who covered the course in 19-55. But he punctured on the way to the start and was five minutes late starting, so was actually credited with a time of 24-55.

Lowe and Astles teamed up to win the women’s team prize, while quickest men’s duo was the Anexo Group RT junior pairing on Joe Cosgrove and Sam Fisher.

Being run near Byley by the Manchester and District Ladies’ CA, the event also featured prizes for teams made up of one woman and one man, with the woman ‘inviting’ a man to be part of her team.

Fastest in that category was Lynsey Astles and Alex Royle with 46-51, while Gail Lowe (Congleton CC) teamed up with Ian Holbrook (Stone Wheelers) for second spot with 48-26.

Formby-based Cosgrove has been in great form this season, with second spot in the North Wirral Velo 10 last month as well as clocking a 19-02 personal best in the East Lancashire Road Club 10.
