Monica Greenwood produced a dominant display to finish as fastest female at the 10-mile Manchester Wheelers time trial on Saturday morning, with David Parkin claiming quickest male.

Macclesfield Wheelers rider Greenwood was almost 90 seconds ahead of the field, finishing sixth overall in 21-37 in an impressive display with Congleton CC’s Alice Taylor runner-up in registering 23-04, while team-mate Lucy Rogers was third in 23-39.

In the men’s event Parkin, riding for Velotik Racing Team, went 20-00 over the course to secure victory, beating Alastair Ribbands by 10 seconds with the Congleton CC rider second in 20-10 while a time of 20-24 helped Manchester Bicycle Club’s Alexander Royle take the final podium spot.

This is Parkin’s third win from nine events in what is shaping up to be a promising season for the 36-year-old, having won the North Lancashire Road Club 10-mile time trial on April 8 and followed it with success at the Manchester Bicycle Club 10-mile time trial on April 10.

On his victory, Parkin said: “They’re going alright. I didn’t do any winter season at all, so when I started in March I was a bit off-pace for the first three events, I was behind the usual guys, and just with the events week-on-week I’ve closed the gap and gone past them.

“It’s just competing them every week. I want to win the Cheshire Points Series and do well in the 100 and the 12-hour, that’s my big targets for the year. I just need to increase the mileage, when I come back into the season I just feel fresh mentally because of not done any cycling. I’m loving the cycling again.”

This 10-mile event, run on the J10/1 course, is race seven of the Cheshire Points Series and starts just northeast of Whitehough Head to proceed along the A6 easterly until turning at the Chapel-en-le-Frith roundabout and retracing the route westbound, passing Whitehough and Buxworth until turning at Bridgemont roundabout and heading back to Chapel-en-le-Frith and turning for the final time to finish just west of Buxworth.
