David Parkin (Velotik Racing Team) and Lucy Rogers (Congleton CC-Mywindsock) proved fastest male and female riders at the Manchester BC 10-mile time trial near Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, on Easter Monday.
Parkin was securing his second open time trial win in a row, having won his first on Easter Saturday at the North Lancashire Road Club 10. But he had already displayed his form in 2023 with three other podium finishes in the bag.
Meanwhile, Rogers has also shown her form with three victories already in 2023 as well as two second-placed finishes in her first five events prior to riding this Manchester BC 10.
Rogers clocked 23-32 to win by 38 seconds from team-mate Alice Taylor, while third female was Jasmine Holmes (Army Cycling) who was another 31 seconds off the pace.
Parkin’s time of 19-51 made him the only rider to go under the 20-minute mark and gave him the overall victory by 17 seconds from Matthew Wales, the Fibrax Wrexham Road Club rider who was sixth in Good Friday’s Birkenhead North End CC 22-milee event and second in the previous weekend’s Liverpool Braveheart BC 10.
Third fastest male was Alastair Ribbands (Congleton CC) with 20-36, while top junior was Birkenhead North End CC’s Reuben Corlett with 22-36.
Parkin hopes to continue his great start to the 2023 season with victory in Wednesday evening’s VTTA North Lancs and Makes 25-mile event, as well as Saturday’s Manchester and District TTA 25.
This event used the J10/1 course, beginning to the east of Whaley Bridge and heading out along the A6 to the junction with Bowden Lane before turning for home.
