Matthew Wales

Matthew Wales rode to success in the men’s event while Lucy Rogers was fastest in the women’s event at Crewe Clarion Wheelers’ 16.5-mile time trial on Sunday morning.

Wales, riding for Fibrax Wrexham RC, finished the course in 35-29 to secure a second successive win after triumphing at the Chester RC 15-mile time trial last month as he continues his fine unbeaten start to the new season.

Second place went to Velotik Racing Team’s David Parkin in 36-04, beating Alastair Ribbands (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) who secured a dramatic third place after registering 36-33, just one second ahead of Steven Filder of Velo6 Racing who was edged into fourth in 36-34.

There was further success for Congleton CC – MyWindsock with Lucy Rogers winning the women’s event in 42-00, while Lucy Morley was runner-up in 46-47 and third place went to Holly Carter (Manchester Wheelers) in 49-15.

Elsewhere, first Espoir was Isaac Russell (Team PB Performance) in 39-38, with Congleton CC securing more success with the team prize thanks to Ribbands, Mark Lovatt and Joe Rendall, while Manchester Wheelers’ Jacob Bradbury was fastest junior in 43-27.

In the two-up event, Alex Royle and Alistair Rutherford of Manchester BC beat Joe Cadwallader and Tristan Pilling of 360 Cycling to the main prize.

This 16.5-mile event, run on the J8/2R course, starts just south of Nantwich and heads southbound along the A529 through Hankelow until reaching Audlem where riders turn eastbound onto the A525, following Woore Road through Buerton, then northbound at Woore on the A51, up past Stapeley to finish just southbound of Nantwich on London Road.
