Charlie Tanfield set a new course record on his way to winning the Manchester & District TTA 10-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon, while Emily Martin triumphed in the women’s event.
Having equalled the record just two weeks earlier, Saint Piran rider Tanfield went even faster this time to win the final event of the early-season Manchester and District TTA 10-mile series in a time of 19-07.
Runner-up Sebastian Grindley (North Cheshire Clarion) posted a new junior course record of 19-44 to beat the existing one by more than a minute, while Alexander Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club) took third place in 20-57.
26-year-old Tanfield lived up to his international reputation with the dominant victory, having previously won team pursuit gold at the 2018 Track World Championships, with 2019 silver in the same event followed by bronze in 2021 also in the team pursuit, to go alongside four European bronze medals and a silver.
On a warm day in the northwest, Team Bottrill’s Martin won the women’s event by more than a minute in 22-57, ahead of the 23-58 set by second-placed Lucy Rogers of Congleton CC – MyWindsock, while the final podium spot was claimed by Total Tri Training rider Laura Oldroyd in 26-40.
The VTTA Championship series event was won by Rogers, with an Age Adjusted Time of 20:16 and the Tricycle Association (North West Region) Championship event was won by Lez Young (TA NE Region) in 31.17, with the juveniles category claimed by Nicholas Smith of Westmead Team 88 in 26-10.
This 10-mile event, run on the J4/20 course, starts just east of Byley and continues eastbound to Cranage before turning northbound to Allostock then the B5081 to Toft where riders head south to pass Lower Peover and Swan Green, finishing just before Hulme Hall Lane.
