Southborough & District Wheelers team-mates Neil Harris and Pip Jenkins took the men’s and women’s victories at the VTTA Surrey/Sussex Championship 25.

Harris, aged 42, took his third victory in as many open events recording a winning time of 50 minutes and 12 seconds.

The G25/89 saw competitors start north of Maresfield in East Sussex before competing out and back along the A22 down to Hailsham.

Harris was scratch rider having won the Cambridge CC 50 and Southborough & Dist Wheelers 10 earlier this season and with a personal best 25-mile time of 48-24.

Last season Harris was beaten into second in the same event recording a time of 51-23 on that occasion, which he knocked over a minute off this time out.

Cris Coxon (Brighton Mitre CC) has had a long season securing seven open victories but was beaten into second this time out in 50-59.

Completing the podium positions was Andrew Meilak (VeloRefined Rule 5) whose time of 51-45 was 17 seconds quicker than fourth placed Sam Fuller (Southborough & Dist Wh).

After taking two second placed finishes in open events this season Jenkins got the win she desired in the women’s event recording a winning time of 1-04-15.

Southborough and District Wheelers dominated the women’s podium positions with road bike riders Emma Haswell (1-11-07) and Carol Tsang (1-20-06) finishing second and third overall respectively.

Taking a clean sweep of victories for Southborough and District Wheelers in the men’s road bike event was Patrick Bareham who stopped the clock in 1-04-09.

Fellow Southborough and District rider Russ Cook finished second in 1-07-12, while Chris Parker (Hastings & St. Leonards CC) completed the road bike podium positions in 1-16-02.
