A relative newcomer to the sport, Chrissy Teague secured her second open time trial victory at the Sussex CA 15-mile event in West Sussex, while Simon McNamara was fastest overall and just two seconds short of the course record.

Teague (Epsom CC) was riding only her second open time trial having competed in triathlons previously, and having won her opening event the Addiscombe CC 10 last month.

The 35-year-old clocked 35-54 with an impressive speed over 25 miles per hour on a warm and sunny day with just a light south westerly wind.

Comeback man Andy Critchlow set a new course record for the G15/92 three weeks ago, and Simon McNamara was just outside it with his time of 30-24, 1-25 faster than runner-up Stuart Bettis (Precise Performance RT) with third going to Nik Allen (Team TMC) who was another 21 seconds off the pace.

“I was pleased with my ride yesterday and enjoyed the effort,” said McNamara. “I feel like I’ve been building some good form over the previous four weeks and had good legs on the morning.

“Importantly I also paced it well saving a little for the final two miles where there is a drag and a little kicker to deal with, I managed to hit those hard and then finish the final downhill section to the finish reasonably well. I was two seconds off of the course record on the day so it was a good ride.”

Addiscombe CC chased the team prize with five riders competing, and with four finishers they were successful in that category as Marek Siwicki, Jim Burdett and Gareth Parr combined for a team time of 1-42-52.

There were two new VTTA (Surrey/Sussex) records set with 70-year-old Chris Lord (Brighton Excelsior CC) clocking 34-12 and 82-year-old Alan Robinson (Central Sussex CC) covering the course in 50-44.

Following her win here, Teague is next competing in an open time trial at the Southern Counties CU 25-mile event on September 3.
