Paceline RT’s Pat Wright stepped up from third in the early-morning 10-mile time trial to take victory in Brighton Mitre CC’s hilly 10-mile later in the morning.
This was his third win in the event, clocking 24-25, a minute outside his own course record and 1-44 ahead of local rider Olly Thomas (Sussex Revolution VC) on a road bike.
Third spot was shared between Adrian Fahy (Onyx RT) and past event winner Mark Emsley (Team TMC) both with 26-49, having started a minute apart of each other.
The hilly ten followed the earlier event, and used 8.5 miles of the same course before diverting up Steyning bostal, regularly used for a breath-taking hill-climb each October for the last mile and affording riders great views from 500-feet up encompassing Brighton, Worthing and the South Downs.
A total of 42 riders took part in the two events, and the team award went to Brighton Mitre CC with Cris Coxon, Jack Smith and Don Parker combining for 1-11-26.
Wright was tipped by Spindata to place second behind Thomas, but he upset the odds with victory – his second of the season following victory in the Southern Counties CU sporting 21 back in March.
But since then the prolific rider has also placed second in the Brighton Mitre CC hilly 25 in April, and third in the Paceline RT sporting 15.8, the opening round of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series and the Redhill CC sporting 18 in February.
