Jacob Storey (trainSharp) proved quickest at Brighton Mitre CC’s 10-mile time trial near Steyning on Bank Holiday Monday. Meanwhile, top rider on a road bike was Jan Grosicki (Sussex Revolution VC) and fastest female was Sally Turner (HUUB-WattShop).
31-year-old London-based Storey was predicted to finish just eight seconds behind Simon McNamara (Sigma Sport-Cannondale) by national ranking system Spindata, but Storey proved fastest, clocking 19-46 to leave McNamara second by 24 seconds while Paceline RT’s Pat Wright was another 41 seconds back in third place.
In the road bike category, Sussex Revolution VC’s Grosicki clocked 22-21 to win by 1-28 from Team TMC rider Kevin Plummer, while Graham Winstanley (Sussex Revolution VC) was third, another 2-26 off the pace.
Sally Turner was the only female riding, but the 43-year-old HUUB-WattShop rider put in a great performance, finishing the G10/97 course in 22-15.
This was Turner’s fifth open time trial victory of the season from the seven she has ridden. Her wins have come in the East Sussex CA 10 and 15.1 in March, the VTTA Surrey/Sussex 10 in April and the Sussex CA 10 on May 6.
She is next expected to be in action at the Hemel Hempstead CC 10 on June 17, as well as the National 50-Mile Championships in July.
Storey’s win was all the more impressive due to the gusting north easterly winds despite sunshine and good temperatures.
This was Storey’s third open time trial win of the season so far with his others being at the Gravesend CC 25 where he beat Nic Fennell into second, as well as the West Kent RC 10 in April on the Isle of Grain.
