Jake Sargent set a new course record on his way to winning the Tebury Velos 10-mile time trial in Wiltshire on Sunday morning, while Jo Wilkie took the honours as fastest female.

Team Bottrill rider Sargent broke the existing mark to set 18-09 on his way to a second consecutive open win and an 11th win from 15 time trials so far in what has become a very impressive season.

A time of 18-56 helped Oliver Bridgewood (Bath Cycling Club) to second place, ahead of Pronto Bikes rider Robert Francis who clocked 19-13 to secure third.

In the women’s event, Wilkie was fastest home in 23-33 for Cheltenham & County Cycling Club, while Team Echelon’s Arja Scarsbrook managed 27-02 for the runners-up spot.

Wilkie’s Cheltenham & County Cycling Club team-mate Rachel Green was third in 27-43.

William Sawyer claimed the top male veteran prize in the 55-59 category in 21-24, while the 60-64 group went to Steve Cottington in 21-10, with a time of 22-41 making Haydn Davies fastest 65-59 and Lewis Lawton first home in the 70-79 group in 26-46.

In the road bike category Andrew Metherell (Salt and Sham Cycle Club) clocked 21-40 to claim the top prize ahead of Ben Parker (Swindon Wheelers) in second (22-28) and Richard Broadbent (Corinium Cycle Club) in third (24-28).

Ran on the U47R course, the event started just west of Cricklade and looped around Swindon Road before heading northwest to Driffield Junction.

Competitors were greeted by dry and cool conditions with a light wind as they looped back to finish just north of the start line.
