Robert Francis picked up a fifth success of the season in the men’s event at the Tetbury Velos 10-mile time trial in Wiltshire on Sunday morning with Jo Spencer taking the honours as fastest female.

Pronto Bikes rider Francis clocked 19-27 to make it five wins from 11 races in 2023 and a first since winning the Bath Cycling Club 10-mile time trial on April 1.

Following up in second place was Anthony Turner (Mickey Cranks Cycling Club) in 19-50, while a time of 20-06 saw Nick English (Aero Coach) and Fulfil the Potential Race Team’s Michael Davis finish joint third in a dramatic finale.

Swindon Wheelers’ Spencer stopped the clock at 23-13 for victory, with The Ark Cycles rider Elizabeth Williams recording 24-10 and the final podium spot going to Jo Wilkie (Cheltenham & County Cycling Club) in 24-49.

Elsewhere, Joanna Knight was fastest female veteran in the 60-64 group in 26-52, while in the men’s event Martin Stanley clocked 22-11 for fastest 55-59 veteran, a time of 20-27 seeing Steven Cottingham take the 60-64 category and the 65-59 grading Paul Rogoll managing 24-37 to win it.

Rachel Elliott and Ian Greenstreet won the tandem category in a new course record time of 19-23, beating their own mark of 19-36 from last year’s Tetbury Velos event. Meanwhile Andrew Metherall (22-02) was quickest road bike.

This event, run on the U47R course, starts just outside Cricklade and heads northwest past Latton and Cerney Wick on the A419 until turning at Driffield Junction and returning back past Cerney Wick and Latton to finish just south of the finish line.
