Jo Spencer

Nick English led a one-two for AeroCoach in the PDQ Cycle Coaching 10 finishing two seconds ahead of his team-mate, while Jo Spencer (Swindon Wheelers) won the women’s event by over a minute.

English, aged 44, was pushed all the way by team-mate Matt Boulton before posting a winning time of 21 minutes and nine seconds.

Starting outside the Duke of Gloucester Barracks competitors battled out and back along an unclassified road which runs adjacent to the A419 to the turn near Cricklade North Meadow.

English, from Bath, finished third in both the Newbury Velo and University of Bristol CC 10-mile events earlier this season, but went two positions better on this occasion.

Boulton started a minute ahead of his veteran team-mate and the pair were almost inseparable during the event finishing just two seconds back in 21-11.

Scratch rider Leigh Schvartz (Oxford Tri) was part of the winning Maidenhead & District CC two-up in March but had to settle for third this time out 30 seconds back in 21-39.

Spindata predicted that the AeroCoach drivers would finish in reverse order with Boulton forecasted to go fastest in 21-16, but English beat that time and his team-mate.

Spencer was a more comfortable victor in the women’s event recording an average speed of 24.9 miles per hour to stop the clock in 24-05.

In her only other open outing of the season Spencer finished second in the FTP Racing 25 but she went one place better on this occasion.

Quickest woman on a road bike was Josie Harcourt (Fulfil The Potential Race Team) whose time of 25-09 was good enough for second place overall.

Completing the women’s podium positions was host club rider Angela Simpson (PDQ Cycle Coaching) who stopped the clock in 27-52.

The only tandem pair was Jon Wiggins and Chris McDonald (PDQ Cycle Coaching) who posted a time of 21-24.

Host club rider Antony Neads was clearly the quickest rider in the road bike category with his time of 22-58 good enough for eighth position overall.

The battle for second was a closer one with Richard Broadbent (Corinium Cycle Club) posting 26-09 which was 32 seconds quicker than Jamie Dawe (Bath Amphibians Triathlon Club) in 26-41.
