Tom Ward

Tom Ward (WardPerformanceUK.com) set a new course record in the FTP Racing 25 despite windy conditions, while Kim Barfoot-Brace (Team Bottrill) was a clear victor in the women’s event.

Ward, aged 28, posted a winning time of 46 minutes and 18 seconds which was enough to take victory by 36 seconds.

The U46C saw riders start outside Cricklade before heading out and back along the A419 to Burford Road Junction.

Once competitors returned to the start they completed a shorter out and back second turning at the Duke of Gloucester Barracks.

On his first open time trial outing of the season Ward started as scratch man and get off to winning ways with a new course record time despite a strong crosswind.

Coming into the event Jake Sargent (Team Bottrill) was unbeaten in open time trials coming into the event with eight wins – including at last weekend’s National Team Time Trial Championships.

However, on this occasion Sargent had to settle for second in 46-54 with quickest veteran on scratch Richard Oakes (Team Ohten Aveas) finishing third (47-32).

Ian Greenstreet and Rachael Elliott

Against a strong field previous course record holder Tom Scorer (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) had to settle for fourth on this occasion in 48-03.

Battling against the crosswind conditions the Newbury Velo tandem pairing of Ian Greenstreet and Rachael Elliott were on form stopping the clock in 49-20.

In the women’s event veteran rider Barfoot-Brace was a clear winner with her time of 55-37 over two minutes clear of his nearest competitor.

The 42-year-old, from Farmborough in Somerset, finished runner-up in the Lea Valley CC 25 earlier this month but went one better this time out to take her first open time trial victory of the season.

A close battle for second saw Jo Spencer (Swindon Wheelers) clock 57-48 which was 16 seconds faster than veteran Claire Emons (...a3crg) in 58-04.

In the road bike event veteran rider Karl Norris (360VRT) posted a winning time of 53-04 which was 2-42 faster than his nearest rival.

The victory was Norris’ fourth of the season in the road bike category adding to his win at the Westbury Wheelers 26-mile event earlier this month.

Robbie Disney (Ludlow CC) was second in the road bike category in 55-46, while Sheldon White (Fulfil The Potential Race Team) finished third (57-00).
