Jessica Rhodes-Jones (AeroCoach) beat the women’s course record, while Tom Biggs (Cheltenham & County CC) celebrated his 29th birthday by taking victory in the Chippenham & District Wheelers 10 in Gloucestershire on Saturday morning.

Scratch rider Biggs was favourite coming into the event and proved why by posting a winning time of 20 minutes and 59 seconds.

Meanwhile Rhodes-Jones took 19 seconds off the previous course record held by Laura Pittard to set a new benchmark time of 22-54.

Competitors were greeted by dry roads for the event, but due to the event being moved from a Sunday to a Saturday afternoon the roads were busier.

Biggs, from Cheltenham, won the AeroCoach 15 the previous weekend and made it two wins from as many open events on this occasion.

A close battle for second saw quickest veteran on scratch Matt Boulton (AeroCoach) finish in 21-36, which was nine seconds quicker than Lee Francis (Velo Club Bristol).

Spindata also predicted a victory for Biggs, but the 29-year-old went three seconds faster than the 21-02 predicted.

Rhodes-Jones won the Sheila Wiseman Trophy for fastest woman rider on the day with her winning time also good enough for 11th overall.

The 32-year-old was competing in her first open time trial of the season and showed her form to win the women’s event by a minute and 55 seconds.

Quickest veteran woman on scratch Georgina Paul (TORQ Performance) finished second in 24-49, while Jo Wilkie (Cheltenham & County Cycling Club) was third (26-35).

Andrew Metherell (Salt and Sham Cycle Club) took his second open victory of the season in the road bike event stopping the clock in 23-41.

Spencer Hardman led a host of Velo Club Bristol riders taking second in 24-28 finishing 49 seconds quicker than team-mate Matt Dale (25-17).

Starting on an unclassified road competitors headed onto the B4696 and headed over the Wiltshire/Gloucestershire border to the Spine Road junction with the A419.

Heading straight over the busy junction competitors turn onto Cirencester Road past the village of Letton to the turn. On the shorter return leg the event finished on the B4696.
