Andrew Feather returned to winning ways with victory in the men’s event at the Huddersfield Star Wheelers Jackson Bridge Hill Climb in Yorkshire on Saturday morning, with Abi Plowman finishing as fastest female.

After suffering a rare defeat at the Velo Club Cumbria Whinlatter hill climb last weekend, Feather (HuntBikeWheels.com) showed signs he was back to his best as he completed the climb in 4-16.07, comfortably ahead of the chasing pack with Team PB Performance rider Jude Taylor second in 4-44.54, and a time of 4-47.06 helping Matthew Brown (Team Lifting Gear Products) to the final spot on the podium in third place.

Last weekend’s second place finish was the first time Feather had failed to win since the 2021 National Championship, with that performance attributed to the lingering effects of a bout of Covid, and the only blemish on a season that, until that point, had tallied three wins from four rides – with one DNF – as Feather seeks to retain his National Championship crown.

In the women’s event, Jadan-Vive le Velo rider Plowman clocked 5-15.69 to top the women’s category and also claim seventh place overall from the field of 21 riders.

In second place was Ruth Dunstan, with the Kendal CC rider managing 6-25.36, while a time of 8-40-27 helped Jenny Hart (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) to third place.

“I really liked this climb, we had a lovely day for it and it was a great atmosphere with lots of support out on the course,” said women’s winner Plowman.

“Taking the course record was a nice bonus! The changes in gradient meant it was tricky to get into a rhythm but kept it interesting. I didn't realise at the time but I was actually coming down with some sickness, which explains why it felt so hard to push the power!”

This event, run on the V9912 course, starts on Woodpit Lane and heads east along Tanter Hill for 0.9 miles before finishing just before Intake Lane.
