Euan Adam lived up to his status as pre-race Spindata favourite with victory in the men’s event at the Harrogate Nova CC 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon in North Yorkshire, with the women’s event won by Gretchen Zoeller.
Durham City Velo rider Adam took first place with a time of 21-11, while Mark Wolstenholme (VTTA Yorkshire) set 21-36 to earn the runners-up spot in an incredibly tight finish, with Fietsen Tempo’s Toby Simpson just a second behind in 21-37 to be edged into third place overall.
Adam now has three wins from 13 rides this season, and his first since success at the Sunderland Clarion 10-mile time trial, with his other win coming at Yorkshire Road Club 25-mile time trial on June 3.
In the women’s event Zoeller clocked 27-39 to win the women’s category by 26 seconds from Otley CC rival and fellow veteran Claire Jessop. Third female was junior Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Wheelers) who was 1-01 off Zoeller’s pace.
Zoeller was also fastest veteran over 40 in the women’s category, while in the men’s event Walter Wilkinson, riding for the promoting club, was fastest veteran over 70 in 25-51, with the fastest veteran over 70 going to Steve Burrows (Vive Le Velo) and Peak Road Club’s Steve Gibson taking the prize for 50+ veterans.
This event, run on the V212 course, starts just south of Boroughbridge and heads onto the A168 towards Walshford roundabout, where riders turn and head back along the A168 to finish just north of the start line.
