John Brearley claimed a fourth win of the season with victory in the men’s event at the Yorkshire Road Club 25-mile time trial on Saturday, with the women’s title going to Rebecca Mason.
A time of 54-13 helped ADDFORM Vive Le Velo rider Brearley to take the Victory Cup, with Mark Wolstenholme (VTTA Yorkshire) clocking 54-34 for second place, and Team Bottrill’s Stuart Henderson claiming the final spot on the podium in 54-53.
Having finished 33rd in the National 10 Mile Championships a week ago, Brearley produced an emphatic ride here to make it four wins from 10 rides so far in 2023.
In the women’s event Mason (York Cycleworks) finished in 1:04-29 to take the Pennine Trophy ahead of Valley Striders CC’s Kat Handy who managed 1:06-16 while third place went to Gretchen Zoeller, of VTTA Yorkshire, in 1:09-31.
Elsewhere, fastest junior went to Clifton CC York rider Lewis Johnson in 1:09-01, while first veteran was Clayton Velo rider Peter Greenwood with a time of 51-27 ahead of Zurburan Racing’s Matt Hill in 51-41 and third-placed David Nichol (Ferry Wheelers) in 53-09.
In the road bike category, Joe House of Drighlington BC clocked 58-48 to win with Orien CC’s James Poulsom runner-up in a time of 1:02-04.
Riders faced very hot conditions reaching 27 degrees on the course, with a slight southwest breeze.
The 25-mile event, on the V235 course, starts by Rabbit Business Park on the A168 and heads southbound, parallel to the A1, turning at the junction on Moor Lane and returning northbound past the start line to turn at the A6055 junction in Boroughbridge.
Riders then turn once again to complete another lap southbound, and upon turning northbound again, riders will finish just south of the start line.
