David Brearley proved fastest at the 91st Andy Wilson Memorial 50-mile time trial, promoted by Yorkshire Federation in North Yorkshire on Saturday, while Helen Goldthorpe finished as quickest female.
ADDFORM-Vive Le Velo’s Brearley finished in 1:50-45 and will now hold the Andy Wilson Memorial Trophy for one year, to be presented at the Federation Annual Luncheon in February 2024.
On a day when 11 riders withdrew due to poor conditions, Aidan Adams secured second place in 1:54-56 while Vector Racing rider Graham Crammond sealed the final podium spot in 1:55-01.
In taking the trophy, Brearley has his second win of the season and first since success in his maiden race of the campaign at the City RC (Hull) two-up time trial, as well as his first-ever solo time trial success.
Brearley’s previous best individual result this season came at the Sowerby Sunday Club 10-mile time trial on June 18, where he secured third spot.
In the women’s event, Otley CC rider Goldthorpe finished clear of the field in 2:16-10, while Gretchen Zoeller (VTTA Yorkshire) managed 2:25-26 to take the runners-up spot.
Severe weather saw a third of entrants withdraw before the start, with several heavy downpours in the hours before the start and a strong breeze on the course making conditions tricky, although riders generally avoided the rain.
This 50-mile event, run on the V151 course, sees riders complete a route from Walshford to Boroughbridge three times.
