Neil Cleminshaw led a clean sweep of the men’s podium for ADDFORM-Vive le Velo at the City Road Club Hull 10-mile time trial in East Yorkshire on Saturday, while Vanessa Barker (Hull Thursday RC) was quickest female.

53-year-old Cleminshaw’s time of 21-11 gave him his first ever open time trial victory, winning by five seconds from team-mate Andrew Miller with 21-16, while third was their colleague Liam Davison with 21-26.

Barker clocked a personal best time of 23-46 to win the women’s prize by 32 seconds from Selby CC rival Beth Grogan, while Samantha Bissell (Barracuda Tri Club) was third, another couple of minutes off the pace.

The event was also a district round of the National Youth Championship, and fastest there was Jakob Hill (Clifton CC York) with 21-50, eight seconds better than his team-mate Elliot Fraser.

Fastest junior girl was Jasmine Townsend (Scarborough Paragon CC) with 26-36, while juvenile Joseph Brearley (City Road Club Hull) clocked 32-34.

After finishing in the top ten at seven open time trials so far this season, this was Neil Cleminshaw’s first victory and his fastest time of the V714 course.

“It was good to do a strong ride, that was a 36-second improvement since my best on there in the National 10 last season,” said Cleminshaw, who is coached by National 50 and 100 champion Adam Duggleby.

“I set a Strava section best of the outbound leg, but due to the earlier thunderstorm I took it very steady round the turn at Howden.

“I rode the National 50 last weekend and did 1:55.30 on a rough course, the team is doing incredibly well this season, unfortunately we didn't have three riders finish last week, but they've won the National 100 team prize today.”

He is next due to be in action at the Sherwood CC 10 in Nottinghamshire on July 22, as well as the following day at the ADDFORM-Vive le Velo 25 the following day near Howden.

Barker’s win was a personal best by 48 seconds, and her second victory of the season so far having also been victorious on the same course at the City Road Club Hull 10 in April.

“I was so happy to get a PB,” said Barker. “The wet conditions weren’t ideal and I was a bit more cautious at the roundabout than usual.

“I thought we would have had the wind behind us on the way back (it felt like that warming up) but it didn’t work out like that. I pushed quite a bit on the way out and then when I turned the wind seemed to be in my face.

“My targets now for the rest of the season are to hopefully keep moving towards a low 23-minute 10-mile time, and tackle some 25s before the end of the season.”

Next up for her is the VTTA Yorkshire 10 next Sunday.
