Sue McFarlane

Richard Sharp took victory in the ADDFORM Vive Le Velo 25 as hosting club riders dominated the top four positions, while Sue McFarlane (Army Cycling) won the women’s race by three seconds.

Sharp, aged 41, posted a winning time of 51 minutes and seven seconds to take his fourth open time trial victory of the season.

The V734 saw competitors start near Gilberdyke before heading out on the B1230 out to Howden in the opening leg.

Riders then turned onto the A614 for the second out and back leg including the climb up to Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and then turning for home.

Overnight rain and up to the start of the event left some standing water and drizzle on the course, but it stayed mostly dry for competitors.

The temperature also helped times with reasonably warm and humid conditions for the Sunday morning start.

Sharp, from Hayton, won the National VTTA Championship over 25 miles in April and was on fine form once again to take another victory.

On the back of winning the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 50 last weekend David Brearley (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo) came into the event with confidence, but had to settle for second this time out 35 seconds back in 51-42.

Completing a podium clean sweep for host club ADDFORM Vive Le Velo was Neil Cleminshaw who stopped the clock in 52-38. The top trio unsurprisingly led ADDFORM Vive Le Velo to the team prize.

Spindata predicted that Sharp would take victory in 49-48 and despite being over a minute slower in reality his time was enough for a clear victory.

Cleminshaw showed the biggest improvement on Spindata with a predicted seventh placed finish in 54-05 which he finished over a minute faster than to take third place.

The women’s category was a closely run contest with McFarlane posting a time of one hour, two minutes and 30 seconds to win by three seconds.

McFarlane finished second in the Reading CC 25, incorporating the Inter Services 25-mile Championships, earlier this month but went one better on this occasion.

Veteran rider Angela Hannon-Flaherty (Seacroft Whs) pushed her rival all the way for victory but finished three seconds back in 1-02-33.

Completing the overall podium positions and quickest road bike Samatha Bissell (Barracuda Tri Club) who clocked 1-04-13.

The only junior competitor was Jasmine Townend (Scarborough Paragon CC) who recorded a time of 1-11-00.

Finally, the quickest road bike competitor was James Poulsom (Orien.Cc) who stopped the clock in 1-02-08.
