George Peden

George Peden (Team PB Performance) was the only rider to break the 20-minute mark as he flew to victory in the Bramley Wheelers 10, while youngster Imogen Wolff (Holmfirth CC) won the women’s event.

Peden, aged 23, recorded a winning time of 19 minutes and 53 seconds over the out and back 10-mile course – over three minutes quicker than his nearest rival.

Starting near Towton riders headed out and back along the A162 down to Sherburn in Elmet. On the return leg riders turned near Towton onto the B1217 with a short uphill kick to the finish.

Conditions were cold and dry while competitors battled against a headwind on the tougher return leg.

Peden, originally from County Antrim in Northern Ireland and now living in Leeds, also won the Farnborough & Camberley CC 10 last month and was on fine form recording an average speed of over 30.1 miles per hour.

Peden was beaten into second in the same event two years ago on a slightly different course after posting a time of 21-11 but went one place better and over a minute faster on this occasion.

Quickest veteran on scratch Stuart Henderson (Team Bottrill) led the chase behind stopping the clock in 22-58, while Roger Bromiley (Harrogate Nova CC) was third (23-54).

“It was a cold morning but a good ride and I felt very good,” said Peden. “I also saved something for the short kick up to the finish. Last time I rode the event it was a really cold morning and I was underdressed. I was a bit more sensible about it this time.”

Junior rider Imogen Wolff (Shibden Hopetech Apex) was on fine form in the women’s event with her time of 24-25 enough for victory and fourth overall.

Wolff was riding her first open time trail for two years but returned in style recording an average speed of over 24.7 miles per hour.

Second in the women’s event was Molly Savill (Albarosa CC) in 25-26, while Beth Grogan (Selby CC) completed the podium positions in third (26-31).

The road bike competition was won by Jemil Tokdemir (Team ASL-Bolton) who completed the course in a time of 24-03 beating Jake Field (Bramley Wheelers CC) into second (25-59), while Robin Seaton-Jones (Bramley Wheelers CC) was third (29-02).
