Last year’s winner Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) made it two in a row at the City Road Club (Hull) 10-mile event in East Yorkshire, clocking exactly 20 minutes to take the win on the V714 at Gilberdyke.
Meanwhile, Hull Thursday RC veteran Vanessa Barker was fastest female with 25-37.
The event – using the same course as last year’s National 10-Mile Championships – drew a large entry but it was Levick who topped the podium, the 25-year-old’s time being 22 seconds better than Philip Graves (Clifton CC) with Bevan Jones (Barton Wheelers) third, another 27 seconds off the pace.
A cross wind made it tough going and nobody got under the 20-minute mark, but nevertheless there were some strong performances.
Barker’s time of 25-37 gave the 48-year-old the women’s prize by 50 seconds from Sue McFarlane (Army Cycling) with third going to Ellen Messingham (Barracuda Tri Club) with 27-13.
In other categories fastest junior/juvenile was Clifton CC’s talented youngster Elliot Fraser with 22-23.
Pre-race favourite Levick was six seconds faster than he was predicted to be by national ranking system Spindata, but was ten seconds short of matching his winning time from the same event in 2022.
The East Retford-based rider will be looking for another victory in Easter Saturday’s Sleaford Wheelers charity 10-mile event as well as next weekend’s Melton Olympic 10 and the Spalding CC hilly 18.2.
Beginning near Gilberdyke, the event rakes riders over the M62 to Boothferry Road in Howden before turning back for home.
