Karl Norris earned an eighth win of the season after triumphing in the men’s event at the Epsom Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on Saturday morning, with Chris Murray finishing as fastest female as both riders set new course records.

Riding for 360VRT, Norris clocked 50-07 to break Robert Drake’s existing course record of 54-57, finishing ahead of Matthew Gilmour (Velo Club Venta) who set 51-38, while a time of 51-44 helped Twickenham CC rider Jonny Newell to the final spot on the podium.

Norris now has six overall wins from 27 races during the 2023 season, alongside two further victories in the road bike category, those coming at the Westbury Wheelers (WTTA Hardriders) 26-mile time trial on May 7, and then at the RTTC National Circuit Championship 25-mile time trial on June 11.

On his victory, Norris said: “I had not raced on the course so was not sure how quick it could be. I found it hard to get in a good rhythm for the section out to the first roundabout due to the uneven surface but after that it improved and managed to settle in.

“The last five miles were a struggle after racing a 10 on Thursday afternoon – with a first at the London VTTA 10 – but I still managed to finish with a 25-mile PB by 25s so I’m well pleased but a sub 50 was there to be had.

“I raced on Sunday in the Gloucester U72 and finished 4th and got a course PB by 3 minutes. Next week it is the f11/10 and double Porlock hill climb.”

Army Cycling’s Murray also lowered the existing women’s record – 58-18 set by Mel Wasley – to a new mark of 56-30, while promoting club rider Christina Teague was runner-up in 57-25.

This event, run on the H25/88 course, is a straight out-and-back that starts just south west of Farnham and heads south west through Bentley and on past Alton on the A31, before turning at Alton and heading back along the same route to finish just north of the start line.
