Mackley and Borradaile battle to victories in VTTA – London & Home Counties Group 10

Veteran riders Neil Mackley and Lucia Borradaile won the men’s and women’s events respectively in the midweek VTTA – London & Home Counties Group 10.

Mackley, riding for..a3crg, recorded an average speed of over 28.8 miles per hour on his way to setting a winning time of 20 minutes and 49 seconds.

However, it was the tandem pair of Ian Greenstreet and Rachael Elliott (Newbury Velo) who posted the fastest time on the night of 19-39.

The H10/3R saw riders start on the A4 outside Hungerford before heading east to the roundabout and the junction of the B4000 outside Newbury. Competitors then turned for home finishing just before start on the slightly shorter return leg.

Mackley, who turned 60 earlier in August, took his first open victory of the season in the Wednesday event.

Daniel Chambers (Bicester Millennium CC) finished four seconds back in second on this occasion, improving on his third in last month’s Leamington C&AC 10.

In a close finish veteran rider Alan Murchinson (HUUB WattShop) finished third in 21-06 which was just 12 seconds quicker than Jeff Roberts (High Wycombe CC) in 21-18.

CC Weymouth rider Borradaile was the quickest woman rider recording an average speed of over 23.73 miles per hour on her way to stopping the clock in 25-17.

Borradaile also won the St Piran/Northover Vets Team 10 in May and added another win to her collection.

Fellow veteran rider Emma Davies (Port Talbot Whs CC) finished second in 25-51 just seven seconds faster than third placed rider Hannah Quay (Reading CC) in 25-58.

In the road bike category veteran Richard Byrne (Newbury RC) was quickest stopping the clock in 26-17.

Vernon Schutte (Farnborough & Camberley CC) finished second in 28-39, while junior rider Will Du Sautoy (Woking Cycling Club) took third (28-58).

Tricycle rider Jymmy Trevor (City RC Hull) was also in action stopping the clock in 24-30.
