Scratch rider Anthony Turner (Mickey Cranks Cycling Club) took his first open time trial victory of the season in the Oxford City RC 10, while Jo Wilkie (Cheltenham & County Cycling Club) was a clear winner in the women’s event.

The 53-year-old was on fine form posting a winning time of 19 minutes and 55 seconds – some 52 seconds faster than his nearest challenger.

The H10/17R saw competitors start on the A420 near Pusey Wood before heading out to Tubney Wood Quarry and then a slightly shorter return leg.

This year’s Oxonian open 10-mile event was held in partnership with Oxford City Road Club to help celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Conditions were windy but the rain held-off sufficiently for the event to be run with a tough return leg to challenge competitors.

Turner, from Witney in Oxfordshire, finished runner-up in the Oxonian CC 25 last month but went one better on this occasion recording an average speed of over 30.1 miles per hour.

Robert West (Team Ohten Aveas) led the charge behind finishing second in 20-47 with host club rider Edward Renwick a further 25 seconds back.

The top three on scratch were also the best veterans on standard with Turner leading the way with his time of 19-55 giving a standard of +7.12.

The quickest tandem was the veteran pairing of Pete Oliver and Chris Edgington (ZeroBC Race Team) who posted a time of 21-56 which beat the father and daughter pairing of Stuart and Skye Martingale (Sotonia CC) into second (24-05).

In the women’s event veteran rider Jo Wilkie (Cheltenham & County Cycling Club) took her first open time trial victory of the season stopping the clock in 24-49.

Fellow veteran Kate Bradley (Born to Bike - Bridgtown Cycles) finished second in 26-12, while Susan Oldham (Bicester Millennium CC) completed the podium positions in 27-09.

The road bike category was a closely fought contest with James Engledow (Mickey Cranks Cycling Club) posting a winning time of 22-39 which was five seconds faster than Thomas Wright (Oxonian CC) in 22-44.

Completing the road bike podium positions was fellow Oxonian CC competitor Alexander Donger who finished in 24-26.
