Ben Williams (GS Mossa) and Naomi De Pennington (Drag2Zero) took the men’s and women’s victories in convincing style at the Oxonian CC 36 in Oxfordshire.

Williams, aged 25, completed the rolling 36-mile course in a time of one hour and 25 minutes to take his first win of the season.

The H36/18 saw riders complete two laps of a rolling triangle shaped course around the Cotswold countryside. Starting near Charlbury riders headed out on the B4026 out to Chipping Norton before turning onto the A361 through Shipton-Under-Wychwood before the finishing leg on the B4437 back to Charlbury.

Despite a somewhat mixed weather forecast, the rain held off and riders were greeted by near perfect conditions with light winds and sunny spells.

Williams won two open time trial events last season and opened his tally for 2023 by finishing three minutes and 13 second clear of his nearest challenger.

Alexander Herd (Oxford University CC) led the battle behind finishing second in 1-28-13, while Ross Hamilton (Port Talbot Whls CC) was third (1-28-52).

Quickest veteran on scratch was Simon Smith (ZeroBC Race Team) who stopped the clock in 1-31-45 which placed him fourth overall.

In the women’s event De Pennington knocked over four minutes off the course record with her benchmark time of 1-32-54 good enough for sixth place overall.

Lucy Harris (Cambridge University CC) was the second fastest overall on a road bike in 1-38-11, which gave her the runners-up position in the women’s event.

Meanwhile, veteran rider Ann Warren (Oxonian CC) completed the women’s podium positions stopping the clock in 1-40-55.

David Holland (Cowley Road Condors CC) was the quickest in the road bike category in 1-33-45 beating Harris into second while Richard Abraham (Cowley Road Condors CC) was third (1-39-34).
