Nicholas Fennel extended his unbeaten record to 12 events after winning the Kent Cycling Association 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with Hannah Graveney triumphing in the women’s event.
Riding for Thanet RC, Fennel lived up to his pre-race status as Spindata favourite with a time of 19-31 to win the event by 21 seconds.
VeloRefined Rule5’s Kevin Tye came second in 19-52 while William Taylor (Go Fast Turn Left) third in 20-04, just a second ahead of Tye’s clubmate Andrew Meilak who took fourth in 20-05 after a thrilling finish.
Graveney (AWOL O’Shea Worx) claimed victory in the women’s event for the send successive year with a 23-57.
Maria Sparks, of Ashford Wheelers, finished second after posting a 24-19, while Kent Velo Girls/Boys rider Debbie Percival claimed the final spot on the podium in 25-57.
In the road bike category, Paul Burrows of Thanet RC, who cannot ride his TT bike due to injury was fastest with a time of 21-13 and Owen Fletcher of Ashford Wheelers was runner-up with a 22-31.
Elsewhere, Huseyin Vardal (Gemini BC) won the 40-50 age prize, with the 51-60 group given to Makr Hill (VeloRefined Rule 5), Andy Robinson of Ashford Wheelers earning the honours for 61-70 and 71-80 going to Christopher Bax of Thanet RC, while 81+ was his clubmate Colin Inett.
The temperature was warm with very little wind from the southwest on course and although riders enjoyed a pleasant morning some riders faced some sticky conditions at times.
The event, ran on the Q10/1 course, started just north of Hamstreet and headed east then north through Bridgefield on the A2070, turning at Cloverleaf roundabout and returning south to Johnson’s Corner then left to finish south of the start line.
