Nicholas Fennell made it ten events undefeated with success in the men’s category at the Thanet RC 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning, while Debbie Percival topped the table for quickest female.
Riding for the promoting club, Fennell continued his sensational season with another dominant victory to finish in 19-06, ahead of Abellio – SFA Racing Team’s Martin Kober who clocked 20-48, while Onyx RT rider Jonathan Smith secured third place in 20-54 – just two seconds ahead of fourth-placed Paul Burrows (Thanet RC).
On his success, Fennell said: “It was good to ride the Q10/30 again this year. It is one of my favourite courses, so I always make an effort to ride it and support Thanet RC who always do an amazing job of running it. On the right day it can be really fast.
“It was almost perfect conditions this morning, fairly low pressure and a South westerly generally means it’s going to be quick. And we were all lucky not to get wet.
“I am very pleased to get a 19:06, one of my fastest times on the course. It was ultra-fast on the outbound leg and still fast on the way back, the last half mile drag meant the 18 just slipped away from me.”
Fennell has now failed to win just one event this season, after a runners-up finish at the Gravesend Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on May 14, while he also failed to finish the West Kent Road Club 10-mile time trial on April 22.
Fennell’s imperious form includes remarkable wins at the VTTA Kent Group 50-mile time trial on July 9, Thanet RC 25-mile time trial on June 25, and his success over 25 miles at the Medway Velo Club time trial on May 21.
In the women’s event, Kent Velo Girls/Boys rider Percival registered 25-19 across the course to take victory ahead of Southborough & District Wheelers’ Natasha Jarman in 26-36, and third-placed Jennifer Fearn (Thanet RC) who set 34-12.
This event, run on the Q10/30 course, starts just south of Hillborough and heads east on Thanet Way past St Nicholas at Wade, turning at the roundabout to follow the A299 back along the route to finish east of the start line.
