Nicholas Fennell

Thanet RC team-mates Nicholas Fennell and Faye Faiers finished over a minute clear of their nearest challengers as they took the men’s and women’s victories at the Kent CA 10.

Fennell took his ninth open time trial victory of the season stopping the clock in 20 minutes and 15 seconds.

The Q10/42 saw competitors complete five laps of a two-mile closed circuit of Betteshanger Park near Deal.

The course includes one tight hairpin and a tight bend which can be completed at speed, to challenge competitors.

Weather conditions helped times with the wind not as strong as normally experienced on the Kent circuit.

Fennell, aged 30, came into the event on fine form having won his last four consecutive open time trial events and won the same event last year in 20-14.

He increased the winning run with another victory and was just a single second slower than 12 months earlier.

A close battle for second saw quickest veteran on scratch Myles Davidson (Bigfoot CC) clock 21-24 which was 13 seconds faster than Neil Gerrard (Thanet RC) in 21.37.

Unsurprisingly the Thanet RC pair of Fennell and Gerrard took team victory alongside Matthew Lister.

Spindata had predicted a victory for Fennell in 20-09 which was just six seconds quicker than his actual time of 20-15.

Thanet RC were also celebrating success in the women’s event as Faiers took victory – completing the course in exactly 26 minutes.

Early starter Faiers was competing in her first open time trial of the season and went one better than her runner-up position last season – improving her time this year by nine seconds.

Fellow veteran Debbie Percival (Kent Velo Girls/Boys) finished second this time out in 27-31, while Natasha Jarman (Southborough & Dist. Whs) finished third (28-15).

In the road bike event Sam Hodge (Thanet RC) was the quickest man stopping the clock in 22-13, while Eryka Smith (VC Deal) was the fastest woman (30-08).
