Jacob Storey produced a fine ride to win the Ramsay Cup Open 25-mile time trial promoted by Gravesend CC on Sunday morning, with Jennifer George claiming success in the women’s event in Kent.
trainSharp rider Storey upset the pre-race Spindata predictions that had him finishing as runner-up to Nicholas Fennell by 26 seconds, and instead finished first in 51-33 for his first open time trial victory since the Witham Wheelers 25-mile time trial in July 2022.
Fennell was unable to follow up his victory at the Medway Velo 10-mile time trial on Saturday with another win here, instead clocking 51-50 for second place ahead of VeloRefined Rule 5’s Andrew Meilak’s 53-43 to seal third spot.
Alongside Mathew Lister and Simon Henderson, Fennell helped Thanet RC to the team prize in a cumulative time of 2:47-12, while fastest road bike went to Tim Kingston, of GS Invicta-Eye Level Optical-Herbert Cycles, in 1:00-42, ahead of the 1:22-54 set by Chris Parker (Hastings & St Leonards CC).
In the women’s event Merlin Cycles Classic Series round four winner Jennifer George (HUUB-WattShop) finished in 55-42, ahead of 4T+ Cyclopark rider Claire Lowe’s time of 1:06.36 which helped her to second place.
This 25-mile event, run on the Q25/8 course, starts on the A252 just east of Molash and heads east to Milton Manor roundabout then returning back on the A28 via Chilham, with riders bearing left to the A2070 on Willesborough Road, heading back to Chilham and re-joining the A252 to go westwards and finish just past Chilham Castle.
